Frequently asked questions
Is this calculator free?
Yes. Every calculator here is free with no sign-up, and the maths runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How is the mortgage or loan payment worked out?
It uses the standard amortisation formula: payment = loan × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), where r is the monthly rate and n the number of months. Tax and insurance are added on top if you enter them.
What is the difference between profit margin and markup?
Margin is profit divided by the selling price; markup is profit divided by cost. A $60 item sold for $100 has a 40% margin and a 66.67% markup.
Where do the currency rates come from?
From the free Frankfurter service, which publishes the European Central Bank reference rates each working day.
